A motor grader blade rebuild addresses structural and mechanical wear in moldboards, cutting edges, and the pivot system, common on machines operating on abrasive clay and rocky surfaces. Typical failures include cracked moldboard skins, scalloped or broken edges, loose or seized pivot pins, and excessive play in the circle drive or drawbar. / The process starts with disassembly and close inspection of the moldboard, circle, and cutting edges. Worn cutting edges are torqued to spec or replaced with hardened steel edges, typically 5/8" to 1" thick, bolted or pinned. Cracked or deformed moldboards are gouged, beveled, and welded using MIG or stick processes, with attention to controlling the heat-affected zone to prevent warping. / Pins and bushings at the circle or blade pivot are pressed out, dimensions verified with calipers, and oversized or worn bushings replaced. Blade lift and angle mechanisms are checked for cylinder drift (hydraulic leaks) and proper articulation. The frame is checked for racking or twist, often measured with a tape and straightedge. Final drive components and circle gear are lubricated, and the assembly is reinstalled with fasteners torqued to manufacturer spec. Field rebuilds allow rapid turnaround, minimizing downtime and hauls to offsite shops.
Onsite Replacement of Pins, Bushings, and Rotate Gear
Atlas presses out worn pins and bushings, machines or sources new parts as necessary, and reinstalls with anti-seize to prevent future seizure. Circle rotate gears and linkage hardware are examined for slop or tooth wear and are replaced to maintain accurate blade control. Service is performed at jobsites, quarries, or municipal yards.
