Swing Bearing & Swing Motor Service

Swing bearing and swing motor service targets the main rotational interface on excavators and cranes. The swing bearing carries torsional and axial loads while allowing 360-degree cab rotation, supported by internal gear teeth meshed with the swing drive. Failures commonly include bearing race wear, excessive backlash, seal leakage, gear tooth chipping, and loss of lubrication. Common symptoms are rotational grinding, significant cab play, lube purge, or non-uniform rotation speed. / Atlas disassembles the access covers, inspects grease channels, checks pre-load and backlash using dial indicators, and samples bearing grease for metal content indicating spalling or pitting. If seals have failed or water ingress is detected, the swing bearing grease is flushed and replaced. Gear mesh and torque are adjusted to spec. / For swing motor service, Atlas diagnoses hydraulic drive function, checks port pressures with test gauges, inspects for internal bypass, verifies spline coupling integrity, and evaluates hydraulic motor noise or heat generation. Worn hydraulic motors are rebuilt or replaced with new or remanufactured units. All work is performed on site, eliminating the need to remove the upper structure or haul the machine to a shop.
