Crane Boom Rebuild

Cranes rely on precisely aligned, high-tensile steel booms that are subjected to tremendous compressive, tensile, and torsional forces. Failures often result from recurrent side-loading, fatigue crack propagation near weld seams, corrosion-induced thinning, or pin boss wear from improper lubrication. Atlas diagnoses damage using visual inspection, ultrasonic thickness measurement, and alignment verification by string line or laser level. / Field repairs start with gouging out cracks using air arc or grinder, prepping the base metal for full-penetration MIG or stick welds, and performing weld repairs according to material grade—requiring temperature control to prevent heat-affected zone embrittlement. Severely bent or buckled sections may require complete removal and replacement, using new structural steel cut and fit on site. Pin bores are checked for out-of-round wear and machined if needed; worn bushings are pressed out and replaced with custom-fabricated units when factory parts are unavailable. / The rebuild restores designed boom geometry, critical for load chart accuracy and safe lift operations. Field fabrication prevents the need for costly transport to offsite fab shops and gets machines operational in a fraction of the time.
