Atlas approaches trailer electrical service by first isolating circuit faults with a multimeter and continuity tester. Common failures include corroded or broken seven-way connectors, pinched or abraded insulation, open circuits from failed splices, degraded ground returns causing intermittent lighting, or brake controller faults resulting in weak or inoperative electric brakes. Field diagnosis involves systematically tracing circuits starting at the tow vehicle plug, verifying voltage at each connector and light module. / Wiring failures often result from physical damage—rock impact, cable snagging, or prolonged exposure to road salt accelerating copper corrosion inside the insulation. Atlas replaces damaged sections using automotive-grade wire, heat-shrink butt connectors, and dielectric grease to prevent future failures. Brake controller and breakaway systems are tested by applying voltage loads with a simulated trailer circuit. / Lights are upgraded to sealed LED units where feasible, reducing future current draw and eliminating common incandescent bulb failures from shock or vibration. Field repair eliminates the need to haul disabled trailers; all work is performed on location, restoring full function for legal road use and DOT compliance.
